DKTV
DKTV[1] (also formatted as D.K.T.V[2]) was a programming block that released exclusively in France on France 2 from September 4, 1996 to September 1, 2001.[3] The block aired both television shows and skits starring Donkey Kong characters that used assets from the Donkey Kong Country television series.
History
The block was originally released under the name Donkey Kong Planet[4] (or La Planète de Donkey Kong in French), and starred both Donkey Kong and French actress Mélanie Angélie. Most skits that aired as part of Donkey Kong Planet frequently derived humor from Donkey Kong's dimwittedness and misunderstanding of human customs. Mélanie Angélie departed from the show in 1999, and the block was renamed DKTV. After the rename, the skits were refocused to feature content ranging from comedic skits to musical numbers and parodies of current movies and TV shows. Despite DKTV being aimed towards children, various skit featured elements that were relatively mature. In July 2000, the block was renamed again to DKTV.Cool[3] (or DKTV Cool[2]). On September 1, 2001, the block concluded and was replaced with KD2A.[3]
Characters and cast
The original incarnation of the block starred Donkey Kong (portrayed by Christophe Albertini and later Nicolas Bienvenu), Diddy Kong (portrayed by Véronique Alycia), Candy Kong (portrayed by Véronique Alycia), Funky Kong (portrayed by Philippe Sax), and French actress Mélanie Angélie. After Mélanie's departure, a brand new green Kremling named Krushy (portrayed by Philippe Sax) was added as one of main characters, making him the only Kremling in the block. Certain skits also included one-off characters.
