Donkey Kong Island (also called DK Island and Kongo Bongo Island in the animated series) is the home of Donkey Kong and the rest of the Kong family.

The island is shaped like Donkey Kong's head, complete with such features as ears and Donkey Kong's signature hair swirl. The island, despite not being extremely large, has drastically different climate in some areas, some areas being jungle, frozen wasteland and desert. Aside from Kremkroc Industries, Inc. and Big Ape City, Donkey Kong Island remains fairly un-modernized. There are several smaller islands near Donkey Kong Island, some of which include Timber's Island and Kremlantis. Also, there are several mysterious ruins (some of which have sunken into the ocean) on the island, it has been speculated that the Kremlings (whose own island was once nearby) may have built these temples, but it is unknown for sure.

History

Donkey Kong Country

[[File: Donkey Kong Island first appears in Donkey Kong Country. Donkey and Diddy Kong, during their quest to re-obtain Donkey Kong's Golden Banana hoard from King K. Rool and his Kremling Krew, had to travel through the island's many areas, which included jungles, caves, glaciers and a large factory.

Donkey Kong Land

Several other locations of the island, such as Monkey Mountains are visited in Donkey Kong Land.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Donkey Kong Island made two background appearances in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, it can be seen in the background of the areas Gangplank Galleon and K. Rool's Keep. In the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country 2, these cameos were removed.

Donkey Kong 64

Donkey Kong Island in Donkey Kong 64

Donkey Kong 64 featured a return of Donkey Kong Island, which was made smaller so that it can be navigated in a three-dimensional. It is the main island of the DK Isles archipelago, the hub area of the game. K. Lumsy's boisterous celebrations allow for increasingly more courses to be accessed from Donkey Kong Island.

Other iterations

Kongo Bongo Island

In several episodes of Captain N: The Game Master a world named Kongo Land is mentioned as the homeworld of Donkey Kong.

Another iteration of Donkey Kong Island, titled Kongo Bongo Island, is featured in the Donkey Kong Country television series, and it is shaped like a banana.
